How to restart Your Training after a longer Pause
In this Blogpost, I will continue the story from last time.
How to restart your training, when you were forced into a longer pause. It happens, sometimes life throws things at us, that are quite unforeseeable.
So, as I was telling in the last Blogpos, I was hiking in that group and asked the oldest guy in our group who is really fit, what he was doing to be so fit.
he started long time ago and did regular exercise
he deliberately split up his exercise routine in parts with resistance training and parts with cardiovascular training.
he spent a lot of time active and outdoors.
But when he got sick for a couple of months during Covid, he had to take a longer break from his routines. And having off those routines for finally over three months he couldn’t just go back to the same exercise schedule.
To get back he focused on two things:
what WAS my level before, means, where do I want to go (goal) and where IS my level right now (current situation).
And with this in mind, he started at about 30-40% of his former routine, either reducing the training volume drastically, but also he also lowered the intensity.
Over the course of months he increased those parameters back and is settling now at about 85% of his former routine.
So he has 15% left still to be fought up, right?
Well, what most people won‘t tell you, is that there IS a thing like getting older.
And sometimes we have to scale back.
My own training is NOT the same as 10 years ago.
So better keep training with a regular routine with some adjustments, maybe some reductions, but keep training. This, you should never stop.
Stay strong,
Matthias
